The Auburn Geological Society (AGS) creates professional development and networking opportunities for Auburn University students and alumni interested in geotechnical engineering. By organizing community outreach, research presentations, and networking events, AGS helps members build their professional profile and make valuable connections within the academia and industry. Whether students are looking to enhance their resumes or alumni want to advance their careers, AGS provides a platform to showcase their expertise. Members gain exposure to the latest geotechnical research through society-hosted presentations. The society ultimately enables Auburn students and graduates to elevate their professional standing and achieve their career goals within a dynamic environment.
The Auburn Geological Society (AGS) was founded in 2007 by a group of passionate Auburn University students. What began as a small organization of just a dozen members has since grown into a thriving community that fosters professional development across geotechnical disciplines.
Over the past 15 years, AGS has facilitated networking and career-building opportunities for many Auburn students and alumni. From hosting expert speakers to coordinating field trips to local sites, the society enables members to enrich their expertise. AGS also engages in community outreach by organizing educational events for K-12 students, shaping the next generation's understanding of the earth sciences. Some of our previous activities to foster the next generation of geotechnical engineers are the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering's annual E-Day open house, demonstrations at science and engineering camps, and undergraduate research opportunities.
